Egg Tempera on wood
Depicting dry and cracked earth, ‘Parched’ represents a landscape of dust and heat caused by global warming. For many people around the world, this is their future.
Water is a precious resource and as agriculture fails, pressure mounts on communities, causing fractions and fighting which can lead to migration. Due to rising temperatures more moisture is evaporated into the air, from lakes, rivers and from plant life too. Land begins to lack stability and nutrients, it becomes dry and hard so when the stored rain arrives in a deluge the land is unable to absorb it.
'Parched' portrays the cracks and fractures on the earth and resonates with the pressure of climate change on humankind.
