The young girl sits at a table, a blank piece of paper pinned by her elbow to the wooden surface. Head tilted towards the viewer she gazes along the length of her left arm to a loosely cradled pencil. Her foreshortened, outstretched arm shows the blue nails of inactive fingers. This leads the viewer into the painting, creating distance between the girl and her dormant pencil.
Daylight daubed in dusty strokes adds to the languid atmosphere. Watery reflections on the table surface and the fall of the t-shirt fix the resigned girl into position.
Thick orange paint unifies the girl and furniture and suspends time and place.
